My friend could have used one of those for his computer. His mom was on the Internet during a storm on dial-up. There was a strike of lightning, a crack from the computer and it froze. Fearinf the worst she waited till my friend got home, he took a look the computer worked fine but the internal modem wouldn't work. Pulled the modem out and noticed a small burn around a chip . Looked inside, and there were scorch marks on the video card above and soundcard below where the modem had been.
Modem was toast as there was a burn mark all the way through it.
On the upside the rest of the computer worked fine.
