New car, nasty cold

Two interesting things happened this week. First I bought a new car, then I got a nasty cold that blew the rest of the week to hell.
The lease on my 2001 Saturn SC2 is over in a few weeks, so we decided that it was time to shop around and see what we could find with our crappy credit. (Life lesson: never lease a car without first finding out how much more your insurance will cost to meet the minimum coverage for a lease.) Long story short, we did a little shopping and a lot of research, and came down to some basic requirements. Headroom, gas mileage, safety, price. Eventually, we narrowed it down to two: the Saturn ION, and the Scion xA. We've loved our Saturns over the years, but Scion offered us a better deal, and damn, does that little car turn out to be fun to drive! So I suppose everyone wants to see pictures:

(I hate those ugly URLs. I need to convert autogallery to use path info one of these days...)
I've got several extra inches of space above my head, she gets 32 city / 38 highway MPG, 4 star ratings in all crash tests by the NHTSA, side air bags, and actually more affordable than the ION. The only significant downside is that there isn't a lot of cargo space, but that's what
fizzgig_bites' car is for anyway. The "MetroShuttle" is basically just for taking me to and from work, and the occasional "date night". (Despite that, ironically, it will actually be easier to get passengers in the back seat than it was with the SC2 coupe.)
So we bring her home Sunday.
Monday I go to work, and for the first time ever I'm actually a little disappointed when I start getting close to work, and wish I could joy-ride around the block a few more times before going in. But I'm late (for me), so I don't. I do get to brag to everybody about my nifty new car, though! I also start feeling like I'm coming down with a little cold, so I suck on a few zinc lozenges, drink a little extra green tea, and pop a dose or two of DayQuil.
Tuesday, I go to work, but I'm having a little trouble concentrating. My throat hurts, and neither the tea nor the lozenges are doing much to help it. Finally around 1, I tell the boss that I'm sick and leaving early and head home. Good timing, too, because about two hours later, I've got massive body aches, spiking a fever, and puking up my lunch. Lunch, which was a little painful to eat because of the sore throat, I might add. By the end of the day, I've given up talking except to whisper.
Wednesday and Thursday were basically spent with a notepad, a spray bottle of Cepacol, and silently wishing that somebody would kill me. That's about it, really. I was fortunately able to eat, else I would have gone to the ER, but that was the only thing going for me. Thursday night we had pizza, and when I finished the first slice, I scribbled to request "More grease! Lubricant!"
Friday, I was starting to feel a little better, and I finally got to see a doctor, who promptly ruled out strep throat, which was my guess. Nope, just a simple, but nasty sinus infection that caused enough post-nasal drip to irritate my throat to the point of insanity. Gave me a Z-pack (hooray for free samples!) and sent me home with instructions to keep using the Cepacol spray, get plenty of fluids and take it easy.
Today, Saturday, was mostly normal. Throat is sore, but not in any unusual way. I've had a couple of nasty coughing fits, but they've only reached the level of "fucking ow," as opposed to "kill me!"
...Now it looks like
fizzgig_bites is coming down with the same cold that started the problem. This is going to be just joyful because she doesn't get secondary infections in her sinuses - she gets them in her ears...
I'm hoping it just comes and goes like a "normal" cold...
At least I get to (probably) go back to work on Tuesday.
...Ya know, this post was supposed to be two paragraphs: I got a car, here's pictures. I got sick. I can be so long-winded at times. I guess I just feel so awful at looking back on what is basically a wasted week that I have to justify it to myself by chronicaling it for the whole freakin' world... ;)
