WASHINGTON - On the eve of Hurricane Katrina's fateful landfall, President Bush was confident. His homeland security chief appeared relaxed. And warnings of the coming destruction — breached or overrun levees, deaths at the New Orleans Superdome and overwhelming needs for post-storm rescues — were delivered in dramatic terms to all involved. All of it was captured on videotape.

Date: 2006-03-03 12:09 am (UTC)Of course, if you look at the UNEDITED tape and the ORIGINAL transcript (that somehow didn't get mentioned in the AP story), you find that 'breaching' wasn't mentioned at all. "overtopping" was. Also discussion on how FEMA wouldn't be able to be in position for 96 hours, and it was up to state and local gov't to handle things until then. (Not to mention federal law that said they *couldn't* do anything until the governer asked for it...which didn't happen until AFTER the breach)
